In 2004, a new Dutch EDM record label “Flamingo Recordings” was established together with the veteran Fedde Le Grand, Producer Raf Jansen and Funkerman. Funkerman also established “Can You Feel It Records” together with Raf Jansen and also performs as a DJ. Let us share our exclusive interview with Funkerman, who is one of the key players in the scene not only as a business man but as a DJ/Producer.

Q1. We heard your new track “Work Your Body” is stored on 6th of January. Can you tell us more about your new track?

I'm just feeling really happy & I'm in a good flow. A lot of stuff is happening at the moment and this track is one of them. I hope the enthusiasm we had making the track comes across.

Q2. How did you decide to work with Cooperated Souls, and how was it?

He is one of the young artists on Flamingo recordings, which is my label. So that's how we got in touch & decided to do a collab. He's in my opinion one of the guys to watch. Young smart guy who after 2 hours of working in my studio is almost explaining me stuff about my equipment :-)

Q3. How was last year? What is your resolution for 2017?

Last year was about getting the right focus again in the studio. The last 2 years felt like the music was taking a turn in my direction & I've spent a lot of time trying to perfect my skills. It's like riding a bike... Once you're really good at it, you can think about where you want to go.

Q4. How do you get the inspiration from when producing music?

I can get inspired by lot of stuff. Can be a sound, an old track I hear on the radio, new stuff by new guys or a night out with the boys. I always like to start with an idea & take it from there. You can even take inspiration of things going wrong when you are working on a track. Sometimes I save the mistake to work on it later.

Q5. Who or what is the most musically influenced to you? If so, why is that?

That is a list of legends. I've been listening to music since I was a kid & the BIG list of music I love keeps on getting bigger & bigger. But I can tell you that the usual suspects like Prince, James Brown, MJ, but also Bob Marley are certainly in there.

Q6. Since DJ Mag started to vote “Top 100 Clubs”, I want to ask your favorite club and the reasons.

My top club is always depending on the people, so for me to pick 1 is hard. Last summer I had an amazing time at Ushuaia. Reason... The crowd was nice, the sounds was hard & the drinks were free :-)

Q7. What is DJ Mag to you as a DJ and producer?

The most influential magazine about dance music.

Q8. Please leave a message for your fans in Japan.

Thanks for listening to my music & I hope to meet you all soon!
