SoundCloud has revealed that DJ mixes will no longer be taken down for copyright infringement for both free and paying subscribers.

The website’s founder, Eric Wahlforss, told Groove that the agreement came whilst negotiating terms for the company’s paid service, SoundCloud Go, as they reached deals with licensing groups like GEMA to stop DJ mixes being removed.

Previously artists could have their mixes removed or accounts deleted entirely if music on it matched material on a database of tracks that copyright holders had asked SoundCloud to block.

Last month, SoundCloud also announced that they would begin paying artists for the music they stream. That was after a huge wave of cyber-attacks took the website down in October.
