Hailing from the Netherlands, Showtek is one of the most well-known DJ duos in the game, as well as recognized producers and composers. The brothers Sjoerd Janssen and Wouter Janssen teamed up together as a duo and began producing music in 2001. They began their career in electronic music, specializing in techno at first, and then developing their style into more hardstyle and eventually progressive house. Most of their tracks boast hard kicks and heavy base synths, which makes their music that much more enticing and bodes well for dance floors at any club or festival. Showtek has done many collaborations with various producers who have varying musical styles and backgrounds, including the “Crazy Collab” in 2012. All these experiences and collaborations have helped them develop into the duo they have become today, and they're not stopping there. They continue to work with other major DJs and producers in the industry on their new tracks, and hope to live up to the high expectations their fans have come to expect. DJ Mag Japan had a great time interviewing Showtek as they talked to us about their new releases and interesting stories!

Q1. We heard that your new single “Mellow” will release soon. Please give us a brief introduction.

We really liked the vocal of ‘and wanted to do something different with it. When we heard the version of Party Animals, which has the happy hardcore vibe in it, we thought about doing a harder version, so before we knew it, we were doing a hardstyle track again, haha

Q2. How did the collaboration with Technoboy and Tuneboy?

Since we are still good friends with the guys, we often talk with each other and were telling them about this project, they said they really loved the vibe and wanted to join forces on this one. We think it’s a perfect combination for this track. Technoboy and Tuneboy are still the top in the hardstyle scene, so they know what works.

Q3. How did you guys get into music in the beginning?

Wouter already played piano at a very young age and later on Sjoerd started remixing songs and making beats. When we once got together for a studio session, we noticed that it worked really well together. We both have our own skills and we know who can do what, until today this still works perfectly.

Q4. As brothers, how could you recognize the value of each other and decide to be in a same profession? How do you guys manage the teamwork or role inside of the team?

As mentioned in the previous question, the combination worked really well, and it might sound as a cliché, but we really complete each other music wise in the studio. From there on things grew quite natural to be honest.

Q5. How do you remember the year of Showtek’s debut in 2001? What would be the biggest change since then?

The level we are in right now is so different then back then, but the pressure to stay on such levels are pretty high.

Q6. What do you personally consider to be the most important moments in your artistic career?

Being in the studio with David Guetta is one of our highlights for sure! But we also feel blessed to be able to perform for our fans everywhere in the world. It’s still thrilling to see that there are so many people enjoying our music and dancing to it.

Q7. What is DJ Mag to you as a DJ and producer?

At a young age this was one of the magazines we read the most. It features a lot of interviews, tips but most important: inspiring artists and music! We still love to read the pages about all the new releases.

Q8. We heard that Showtek just had a great show in Tokyo last month. Did you have chance to hang out somewhere in Tokyo?

Unfortunately not this time. We hope we have the possibility to hang out with our fans next time! We really love Tokyo! And the vibe at the show was crazy!

Q9. TOP100DJs voting started in Japan from this year. Would you like to leave a message for your fans and voters in Japan?

We want to thank everybody for all their support throughout the years! And we hope to see you all really soon! Domo Arigatou (Thank you)!
