For the last sixty years, club promoters have had to work out around outdated and surprising rules that prohibited dancing at night. The legislation, which stretches back to World War 2, was largely unenforced, however its abolition has galvanized the Japanese club scene.
EDM in is on the rise domestically which has brought new music and sounds to a resurgent club and festival network across the country. DJs including Nervo, Dyro, Dannic, DVBSS and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Steve Aoki are all regular visitors, while international events such as Ultra Japan are showcasing the world's biggest artists to thousands of excited Japanese clubbers. DJ Mag Japan aim to showcase the Japanese market through producing a member system - a network platform for artist promotion both domestically and internationally. They also plan to launch an online DJ school, work with brands to create exciting content, launch a merchandise range and sell club and festival tickets.
