Mar-T knows a thing or two about Ibiza — the Barcelona-based DJ and producer has been the resident DJ at Amnesia for over 15 years. This summer he’ll be playing Amnesia's opening party on Saturday 28th May and then seven dates as HYTE’s resident on Wednesday nights.

As well as being a prolific DJ, Mar-T is a hugely respected producer having chalked up releases music on well-respected labels including Hot Creations, Cocoon, Elrow Music, Roush, Avotre and Toolroom, and on his own imprint WOW! Recordings, which has been the home for releases from the likes of Butch, Eats Everything, Guti and Paco Osuna. We sat down with producer to find out his top tips for places to visit when he's in full Ibiza mode.

Breakfast

I would start the day going for breakfast or brunch at ‘Croissant Show’ In Plaza de la Constitución (Ibiza Town) next to the main entrance to the city wall of Ibiza (UNESCO heritage site since 1990). A well-known place where you will always see, in the terrace, tourists of all nationalities tasting good coffee and great French croissants.

Lunch

After this I would go to Las Salinas beach for some sunbathing and swimming, easy to go by bus, car or even bicycle (10km from Ibiza Town). Once there you can go for lunch to Can Masia, which is on the road opposite side of Mar y Sal Hostal. In this small ‘chiringuito’ you can find the best Fideua on the island and best of all is that it’s quite cheap. After lunch and some more sunbathing I would have a walk around Ibiza’s Dalt Vila (Old Town) and go all the way to the top of the mountain. There you can take some breath-taking pictures and feel like you’ve gone back in time.

Dinner

Then it’s dinner time! There are a million places to go but if I had to choose one I would drive to Santa Eulalia for some amazing food at O'Galego, it’s not amazing looking but has great food and is next to the beach boasting really good quality fish brought in every day from Galicia. If you are not into fish then you can always go to Sant Gertrudis where you’ll find on the road a restaurant called Can Caus where there is always a free table (you’ll never need to make a reservation) and the meat and overall quality of food is good.

Relaxation

After some great food I would go to have some perfect cocktails in a spectacular bar in the middle of the mountain on the road between San Jose and Ibiza. Another place with great cocktails is Bambuddha on the road to San Juan - but it’s not so good to eat there. More options include; going back to Ibiza Town to visit Calle Barcelona for some bar action where you’ll find around 15 bars in a very small street, none with good cocktails but cheap drinks if you let the PRs come to you.

I must say that in July and August I would never go to Las Salinas as it’s super packed and it’s better to go to other less crowded beaches like the ones which are on the north side of the island and if you have time you must go to Formentera which is like going to paradise where you can really relax and disconnect from the world. All the options of restaurants I’ve mentioned are relatively cheap when compared to the prices of many other restaurants on the island which in many cases are more expensive and give less quality food but in a more cosy location.

Clubbing

To follow, for some clubbing action I would go to Amnesia or Pacha; Amnesia if I want to party hard till late, Pacha if I'm in more of a relaxed mood and only looking for a place to continue the night with some friends.

You can catch Mar-T throughout this summer's Ibiza season starting on Saturday May 28th for Amnesia's opening party, and then on Wednesdays for HYTE starting 1st June.
