Q1. We’re so excited to your coming back to Japan! How has this year been treating you so far?

2019 has been pretty crazy and going too fast so if you have a way of slowing it down please let me know ! I’ve done lots of shows and started my summer residency Pete Tong Sunday Sessions at Blue Marlin Ibiza. I’ve also been recording the new Pete Tong & HERO Ibiza Classics album which has a more chilled theme and features some amazing collaborators and some original music which I’m very excited for the world to hear. I’m really looking forward to coming back to Tokyo to play at Circus. I only played once before at Agaha many many years ago so it’s been way too long!!

Q2. What was your first impression of Japan? What was the most surprising or impressive experience? Something within your expectation?

I have visited a few times and my wife lived here when she was younger so we have a strong affinity with Japan . When you first come to Tokyo as a European you think “blade runner” and the future but now I’m moved by the history and the deeper culture.

Q3. Could you tell us about your long running radio show BBC1 essential mix for the new fans?

I’ve been doing 2 shows on bbc radio 1 for over 25 years. My Friday show is the official start to the weekend where I showcase the hottest electronic music from around the world and The Essential Mix where we feature the worlds best djs artists and producers in the mix non stop back to back for 2 hours. I’ve been fortunate to have had the support of radio 1 for so long which means we can really move the needle for an artist. The shows make a difference.

Q4. Can you pick 1 or 2 must plays in your recent sets? Are you going to play them at CIRCUS Tokyo?

Song of the summer so far is Roberto Surace and “Joys” so I’ll be playing. That for sure it’s still unreleased. Also the new Adam Port remix of Cubicolour and so much more !! There are some amazing melodic techno and cool house tunes around at the moment

Q5. Are you planning on doing any sightseeing in Japan?

I’m taking the family to Kyoto for a few days so I can be a proper tourist !! Also Mt Fuji and my kids want to hunt down cool Tokyo fashion and food!

Q6. Any messages you want to leave for you Japanese fans?

If you appreciate underground house music melodic tech and techno please come down and check us out at circus it’s a rare visit in an intimate setting and I really want to connect with those music fans. Also if you making this kind of music come and bring me a usb stick as I’m starting a new label and would love to support Japanese artists.
