DJ Mag Japan Special Interview：Zack Martino

Q1. Could you introduce yourself to Japanese and Asian fans and please briefly explain how you grew up and got involved in the dance music scene?

Hey everyone, thanks DJ Mag for having me. I’m Zack Martino, a DJ/Producer from New York City, United States. I would consider my style to be upbeat vocal house with a lot of dance influence. I got into dance music about 10 years ago from going out to the teen night clubs in my city. I loved the music which led me to learn to create it myself. I released my first song in 2015 and since then I officially signed as an Armada Music Artist & very excited to see where this Journey takes me.

Q2. Congratulations on your "Mood" release! Please talk to us about the inspiration behind it.

Thank you! ‘Mood’ is such a special song to me. At the time I slid into Dyson’s dms because I was a fan of her work and wanted to work on a song together. Later that day she sent me some toplines to see if any stuck out to me. The first one I listened to was ‘Mood’ and I knew right away I had to work on this. When I first heard it, it was stuck in my head all day & 2 days later the song was finished! I had a dream growing up in NYC to see my name up in lights in Times Square and having ‘Mood’ up there was a dream come true.

Q3. How has this year been so far? What big festivals/clubs do you will be playing next?

This year has been amazing! This was the first year I started touring & being able to play all across the USA. It’s amazing! I finally get to meet everyone who has been supporting me. We are planning a ‘Mood’ tour for the Summer / Fall. Very excited for it!

Q4. Can you pick 1 or 2 must plays in your recent sets?

Songs that have been in my sets lately are ‘Losing It’ by Fisher, ‘Piece of Your Heart’ by Meduza and MOOD :)
