Marco Lys, a Venetian DJ/Producer from Italy has been in this electronic dance music for over 2 decades. He is one of the representative producer in the Tech House scene and is highly praised for his contributions to the scene. Not to mention his collaborations with inspiring artists who have been heavily involved in the scene including Sam Paganini, My Digital Enemy, My Digital Enemy, Michael Gray, Prok & Fitch, Alex Kenji, Funkerman, Chris Lake and so on, needs no introduction. Despite new generations coming up, he is still going strong in 2018 and this time, he has something special coming up, which he wants to announce to his fans.

Q1. Please talk to us about your latest release and the inspiration behind it.

I've released different tracks lately, but I think you are talking about “The Story Continues”, that's a very special one for me as I still keep having goosebump all the times I play it.

It's not a secret that the track is a cover of the same title one from Lil Louis, one of my all time favourite producers. The idea came listening to the original track on an old mixtape, so I decided to do a personal bootleg to share with some djs friends. The structure was basically the same as the official release on Bambossa and to make it even more special I thought to add a vocal loop, the one that can't get out of your head when you listen to it for from the first time, so I found that “Pocus” did the job great!

I started playing the bootleg in my sets and the reactions were great all the times and great were the feedbacks from my dj friends too. So I said to myself: this track needs to see the light and decided to call a sax player in my studio to replay the part (thanks Fabio Dal Borgo for the great job!) and sent the cover version to the same djs to test it out.

One day Alex Kenji, one of those djs, posted a video on facebook of a gig he had on a huge club in east europe of him playing “The Story Continues” and you could see how big was the impact on the dancefloor, few hours later a message popped out on my messenger: “Marco, I need that bootleg of Lil Louis that you did. Can send it to me?”... Could I say no to Harry Romero!?

He started playing the track and the feedbacks from him were amazing! So I proposed to release it on his label Bambossa, he was very happy to accept. The support to the track from the top djs were growing and growing; It took nearly 1year to get the publishing clearance from Lil Louis, but it was worth it!

Q2. How is this track special compare to other tracks you’ve released throughout the career?

There are some tracks of mine that were very special for me in my career, but this one is probably so special compared to the others because of two reasons: The first one is the positive energy it gifts to the crowd, you have to try it to see what I mean. The second one is because is something you can't just relegate in one genre. It's so amazing to see it's being played in cool clubs by house, tech house  and techno djs aswell as like (even if I don't like this word) in “commercial” and it works at the same way.

Q3. Can you give some advice for the amateur DJs. How did you acquire your DJ skills during you amateur years?

Staying close to the dj booth watching the dj spinning the records, learning the tecnique and understanding why he played that record in that moment of the set and even if I wasn't close to the dj booth my ears were always checking the mixes from one track to the other (I know I'm not normal!). Listening to the other dj sets is something I'm still doing now.

Q4. How do you learn to create tracks and the production process itself?

I started a very long time ago, no internet, no youtube tutorials, and living on a city where nobody else were producing dance music. The only way to learn was buying some books and going to someone else studio and learn the way they worked. I did a lot of mistakes on my tracks in the past, but everything helped to develop my skills.

Q5. DJ Mag Top 100 Clubs 2018 was announced, we’d like to ask your favorite club and the reasons.

I can tell you my favourite clubs where I've played, where there was a special connection with the people. Ministry Of Sound, Ushuaia in Ibiza, Ku De Ta in Bali and even it's not a so called “Club” at Groove Cruise Miami, I had the luck to play at  dawn, still one of my best experiences.

Q6. Please leave a message for your fans in Japan.

Believe in yourself, always, there will be good moments and bad moments in your career.

In 2017, Marco Lys yet again overwhelmed hundreds of dance music fans with his performances at Ministry of Sound, Proud2, SET at Miami, Amnesia and Ushuaia at Ibiza and many more. Summer 2018 seems to be filled with exciting projects and catch him playing at great events this summer!
