Dutch based DJ and Producer, Jonathan Tan aka Wantigga has been inspired from gospel, soul and jazz since he often went to church in his childhood. His music style which combines dance music with his own sound like soul, funk and jazz now gained attention from dance industry so far. The rising talented star Wantigga answer to our questions about new EP and future plan.

Q1. Please talk to us about your latest release and the inspiration behind it.

Suddenly Everything is about moments of clarity. We all had mornings where you felt so hungover you decided never to drink again. Or you are broke and then you realize tomorrow is payday. These moments change the way you see things, mostly positive. It’s the shitty moments that make the good ones great and with this EP I pay respect to the struggles we go through so we learn how to celebrate life.

Q2. How is this EP special compared to other tracks you’ve released throughout the career?

For me personally this EP is special because it’s a more experimental than my previous work. The instrumental tracks on the EP I made with a specific picture in mind, a thought. I wanted to compose like a painter paints. For example, I made the “Interlude” with a friend in mind who just became a father. It was my version of a lullaby, a song to rock his baby to sleep. I never made music in this way and I hope people can relate.

Q3. Can you pick 1 or 2 must plays in your recent sets and why?

On My Mind by Preditah & Jorja Smith and Raingurl by Yaeji. I love the way these songs bounce in a club. Even though they’re UK & house joints, they fit perfectly in my set that’s dominated by hip-hop and future beat edits.

Q4. Are there any artists in particular you would love to collab with this year?

There are a lot of artists I really like. But I would love to make a track with Yaeji. That would be really dope.

Q5. Can you give some advice for the amateur DJs. How did you acquire your producing skills during you amateur years?

I started making beats for rappers. I was a big hip-hop fan and liked hanging out in the studio with my friends. I learned a lot from working with a lot of different people until I felt confident enough to release some music for myself. I always want to learn and truly enjoy making music, and I think that is the key. Having a passion and the discipline to work hard for it.

Q6. Please leave a message for your fans in Japan.

I only have mad love for Japan! Come to one of my shows and let’s connect, enjoy good music and get to know each other. Or take me to good Japanese restaurants and we can become friends for life. Arigatōgozaimasu!!
