British-born Chicane is a well-known DJ and has released numerous hits to date. It's not an exaggeration to say that Chicane is widely considered to be the one to have helped to layout the foundation of the current trance music scene with his own creative, passionate, and at times unpredictable sound. The magnificent trance producer released compilation album based on his own radio show “Sun:Set” from Armada music on 2018 Jan.19. He tell us about the album and his insight on current music scene.

Q1. Congratulation your latest Compilation album “Sun:set 2018”, Could you tell us about the album ? How did you choose songs included in this album ?

Thank you! It’s a first of many and It is a first of all involvement of what we have been applying on the show “Sun:Set” so far. All songs in our show have great beautifulness, proper tempo and more. I just want to introduce to people about how beautiful these songs are.That is the reason why I planned to release this album as not an typical DJ mix album. People can listen whole songs one by one through it. 

We already have selection list from our show “Sun:Set”. They are not all about trance but all are beautiful and evocative. 

Q2. Are there any plan for celebrating the album or new project in future ? 

Not at all in terms of celebration of this album, but I had Sun:Set live at Australia one weeks ago and will have concert at Seattle and may go to Chicago for a week. After that, I will go Helsinki also. This time, I cannot go Japan at this time, but really want to go back japan. 

Anyway, my new album is in between, it will be all about my new songs. We are looking to do probably in this summer or winter. It depends on the contents included in the album. Of course, Show, concert is planned for this album!

Q3. How do you see the future in dance music market ? please tell us about your opinion and advise to current young producers 

At Business wise, Not all are good really, There will be more producers and selling music is more difficult … Streaming has might cut revenues for all artist hugely, you know…. Especially for young people, it is now very difficult to fit themselves into this market. 

But music wise, there are no changes between my age and younger age, we must dedicate ourselves into music, put a lot of time to experiment and learn skills. It has never been easy so far. So, we have to be resilient character and love, live, breath and do music. It is like any job that requires us that dedications. There is no shortcut to the price you get toward your professional level.

Q4. In this current situation, could you please tell us your opinion about what aspiring young producer should do? 

Learning history is one, i think……, to know where the music from and how it has been evolved is helpful for them, but it is not everything of course. For being good producer, understanding how to move people is more important. We always must try to create evocative music. Is it important above all.

There is no shortcut for achieving this goal. You must touch each records and songs and learn how to produce from them like chords, songs structure and more. Those things are most important.  

Q5. Could you please leave message to Japanese fan? 

Thank you for all. Japan is really cool! I really come to japan again. It has been a 4 years since I was there. See you again!
