Well-known female Dj/producer Duo NERVO, nominated in No.42 of DJ MAG TOP 100 DJs 2017, has continuously gained highest reputation and attention from world based audience and been on top of dance music scene. Their successful Grammy and billboard awarded artists gave Japanese young dj/producers advices and message about like how Japanese DJ can enter Europe dance music market and their success story.
Q1. How is the dance music scene evolving?
We think the future of EDM is entertainment. People will always love music so as long as you keep making good music there will be clubs, festivals, and concerts. We like to make a variety of music so we hope our fans will keep listening !
Q2. How do you see the Japanese market?
We have been coming to Japan for over 10 years and we have immense respect for the people and their culture. We love so much about Japan, from how creative people are with their fashions, to how disciplined they are with their work, and also how respectful they are of their own culture but also of outside cultures. We love the food, we love the cities, we love the country, the onsen, karaoke, the seasons, the cherry blossoms, the air, the fashions, the quirkiness. We just love love love Japan!
Q3. What would be essential for Japanese DJ/Producers to enter the European market?
Music and hustle. No one cares if you’re Japanese or Dutch or American or Australian or Spanish. Just make great tunes and work hard!
Q4. Please talk in details about your ‘success story’. (How you grew up, debuted as a DJ/Producer, life changing episode, daily routines etc)
We managed to emerge through pure hard work, dedication, and of course some luck. We went through a lot of hard times and worked our way through with jobs like waitressing while we wrote songs for other musicians. Music was the only thing that ever came easy to us. It was our passion. It’s a dream come true to be able to turn our passion as our work and we are grateful for this every day. The business side of things has not been as easy to work with or understand but it is part of being a musician/artist. We got a huge break with David Guetta and some smaller breaks with people like Armin Van Buuren, Avicii etc. This year we are celebrating a major sync with Apple and also a top 40 radio hit in The USA with our friends -Sofi Tukker! Our daily routines change from when we are touring vs when we are the studio but one thing stays the same - we are always working!

As one of the DJ MAG TOP 100 DJs and internationally successful DJ/Producer, NERVO has been through several hard times in their career. This story is an enough motivator for young Japanese DJ/producers for sure and it is an evidence which tells us all we can be what we want to be. We are waiting the time when Japanese young DJ/producers perform at same stage of NERVO in the future.
